Tyvek® is an amazing material that is useful in a number of specialized applications such as sterile medical device packaging and water-resistant document protection. However, the unique structure of Tyvek®, which is unlike the kinds of films commonly used for flexible packaging, makes it notoriously difficult to bond to itself. IMPAK has nonetheless brought to bear our expertise in heat sealing technology to help many customers that wish to use heat sealers to create strong seals on Tyvek® pouches and rollstock.

The key to getting reliable seals when bonding Tyvek® materials is having precise and consistent control of heat seal temperature, time, and pressure. IMPAK’s line of validation-ready sealers are specifically designed to provide this fine control for industries that must adhere to strict protocols when sealing sterile packaging. The Siemens-based state-of-the-art iS2 control system allows seal temperature accuracy within a +/-1° range with repeatable performance. Plus our technical staff is available to work with you regarding your Tyvek® application in order to make recommendations on how to achieve optimum results.

IMPAK is also proud to offer TeknaPore™, a new alternative to Tyvek® that can be used in all the same applications with comparable properties. TeknaPore™ is available in grades that are equivalent to grades 1059B and 1073B of Tyvek®, and these films have been successfully used to produce peelable pouches, catalog mailers, and other structures that perform well when heat sealed.

Tyvek® is a registered trademark of DuPont™, and similar materials made by other manufacturers may be referred to as "spunbonded olefin" or "spunbonded polyethylene."
